I am in the process of gilding a large area on canvass....my bole was a water based
yellow and my sizing was also water based. In apply a second layer of leaf, I ran
into problems with leaf laying flat....so, as was recommended, I applied an oil
base sizing. The leafs went down flat beautifully in most areas, but in some were
rough...so I lightly sanded. It has been 8 hours and I don't know whether to con-
tinue with second layer of gold leaf by using the oil based sizing - or go back to
the water based sizing - or gesso the trouble areas, then bole, then size, then
leaf - in essense start from beginning on top of bad areas. HELP!
