It looks like his paintings are uniformly varnished from the highlight of the one on the wall. I am thinking that a Satin varnish might be the right approach. Maybe I will ask him as you suggest. I have already been all over the net, checked out other artists and watched enough Youtube videos to totally confuse the issue!
